Quiet streets of Forest Grove, OregonForest Grove, Oregon, in Washington County, is a beautiful city with scenic views just outside of Portland’s metropolitan district in Oregon, referred by its residents as a great place to live, learn, work and play. Originally a farm town, the city was incorporated in 1872, maintaining its small town charm and friendliness but at the same time offers the convenience of a developing city with rich lands and vineyards. Some of the well known businesses include a high tech circuit board manufacturer, makers of maraschino cherries and a timber company. Forest Grove is home to Pacific University, an accredited University reflecting a college town atmosphere in the city surrounded by wineries, stores and restaurants. It is located in the Tillamook State Forest, which provides the city has lots of green trees and agricultural areas.

Forest Grove was first settled by Europeans in the 1840’s, but initially before their arrival it was inhabited by the Native American tribe called the Kalapuya. The first post office of was established on February 1, 1850 with Abigail Smith as the first postmaster. The city name was given on December 31, 1858 by J. Quinn Thornton, with farming as its main economic activity. Thornton referred to oak trees in the now university campus when he decided to suggest a name for the city. The town was incorporated as a city in 1872.
